"We have done several patent searches and we're fairly confident there's not anything even remotely like this. We're pretty sure we've got something new," said Roderic Brame, an fraternize with professor at USF Poly and director of science and technology education at the university.

Brame said the new design would be about 2 percent more economic in utilizing solar energy than current panels — a notable gain considering the efficiency for most commercially at panels tops out around 20 percent.
