SCHOTT achieves 19.7% efficient PV cell with electroplated copper contacts ...
On December 12th, 2011 SCHOTT Solar AG (Mainz, Germany) announced that it has achieved a 19.7% conversion efficiency with a solar photovoltaic (PV) apartment utilizing electroplated copper contacts in place of silver, as verified by Fraunhofer ISE (Freiburg, Germany).
Also on December 12th, 2011, the plc announced that prototypes of its PERFORMA MONO PV modules have reached 289 watts output, also confirmed by Fraunhofer ISE. The party expects to launch these modules in the second quarter of 2012.
“This new cell represents a real milestone on its way to achieving higher produce at lower production costs,” explains SCHOTT Solar Director of Solar Cell Development Dr. Axel Metz.
“We have been exploring every imaginable aspect of this technology over the last few years and have made important progress these last few months. Now, we were successful in combining these excellent results in a new chamber. The next step will be to provide actual proof of its long-term stability.

i am exceptionally interested in preparing a simple, homemade solar cell n in turn connecting them to envisage a panel. i also wanna bother about the cost. its gotcha be lower in cost and higher in efficiency.
Unless you can get someone else to buy it for you, it's not active to be lower in cost. You can't really beat a commercial panel, unless it's a setup that doesn't have to last more than a compressed amount of time.
