The Detention Center uses a large amount of hot water (about 2,700 gallons per day). Its operations include profusion facilities, laundry facilities and cafeteria facilities. Currently, its water is heated through natural gas, which will continue to be the backup for the system.
Henderson County’s part of the cost for installation is being paid for through a grant from the North Carolina State Energy office with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Monies.
