I've noticed that solar batteries are always on the blink up into little sections. Does each section as an individual voltaic cell - and then all of them are connected to series/parrallel?

You recollect you got it about right.

If you had 100 one volt cells that all put out 1 amp each and hooked all of them in series you would have 100 volts and one amp.
